Deborah J. Burke
Founding Editor-in-Chief
My name is Deborah J. Burke, and I am the
founder and current editor of Soul
Sistah. Being part of the Soul Sistah movement for the past three years has
really allowed me to understand what Soul Sistah truly is; a spiritual
community of editors, writers and readers. The magazine we produce is only
a reflection of the soul we try to share with each other and the rest of our
community.
I really want sistahs (and brothas) to have a forum of
expression, love and support; a place where deeper issues can be
disccussed and acted upon. I hope that people have found that here. Jesus
has used me to start this movement, I have learned so much from it, and He
will use others to continue it. But all I can say is I have been blessed by
the many hands and hearts that made Soul Sistah happen. Thank you and God
bless.
My Love,
Debbie.

Edward V. Jackson
Creative Collaborator
Edward Jackson is a professional San Francisco street artist/tap dancer. He became involved with Soul Sistah when he met Deborah, and began assisting with the creation of Soul Sistah's foundation. He involved himself with idea generation, modeling, publicity in SF, editing articles, emotional support, critiqueing, challenging and most importantly, assisting to shape Soul Sistah's identity. It was a wonderful experience working with Deborah because we gave birth to her ideal but we shaped it together with lots of love and struggle. It was blessed with commitment and a strong belief in God. The responses from the first issue were so amazing but you can see the improvement from the first magazine to the last magazine. The ending product is beautiful. To the black women, not only are you ladies brilliant but fine and I could not imagine this magazine without your creative love. I consider all black women to be Queens and I am in awe of your beauty and wisdom.

Jo-Issa Diop
Music News Editor
Jo-Issa Diop is Assistant Lay-Out Editor of Soul Sistah Magazine. During Admit Weekend, she saw a flier requesting applications for Soul Sistah magazine and knew that she had to be part of the magazine that she felt represented her in so many ways, if she decided to come to attend Stanford.
She loves to write creatively and hopes to use her extensive imagination for the good of
the magazine. She is currently a sophomore ('OO7!), with interests bordering on
the "techy" and "fuzzy" line. She recently produced Spike Lee's School Daze. She thanks the Soul Sistah staff for welcoming her on board
and hopes God will bless the family on their new journey.
